Football coach Jose Casagran of the South Gate High School is ready for next season. In a Youtube.com video by Eriksarni1 we see how Casagran is optimistic about next year. The new head coach of the Rams says that he is hoping to, "return the school to where it should be, which is [as a] contender for the eastern league every year." Baldwin Park educator launches "Move to Read" DVD, a fun, innovative way to beginning literacy skills.
For Miriam Everette, a long time educator in the Baldwin Park area, using physical activities to support literacy came about as a natural extension of decades of observation of both kids and adults. The educator developed a program called “Move to Read" that evolved as a result of her observation of adults struggling with learning both kinesthetic movement and a literacy skill in the classes she used to give at Morgan Park. “I was hearing about ‘Reading by 9’, ‘Read Across America’, etc. and started to wonder....what happened, why are kids having such a tough time learning to read now,” said Everette, “what's changed? The South Gate Community Adult School awaits big budget cuts for next year.

Adult schools, which once feared their complete defunding, are now confident that some money will be allocated to their program. However, serious cuts are expected along with teacher layoffs. “We are still looking at huge cuts,” said Elsa Madrid, principal of South Gate Community Adult School, who estimates that next year’s budget will be between 25 to 50 percent less than this year’s. “This will mean less teachers.” In fact, close to 10,000 preliminary pink slips were distributed to teachers through out the LAUSD this past March, according to 89.3 KPCC . The Daily Show's Senior Latino Correspondent Al Madrigal (also known as their Señor Latino Correspondent) went down to Tucson on Monday to investigate the city's recently instated Mexican-American studies ban. Madrigal spoke with local proponents of the law which has outlawed the Mexican-American study program in K-12 public schools. Four $500 scholarships will be given out to high school seniors.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles Unified was sued today by the mother and sister of a 17-year-old girl stabbed to death Sept. 30 at her high school in South Gate, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend. Margarita Meza and Janet Santana, mother and sister, respectively, of Cindi Santana, brought the suit in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging wrongful death, negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress and asking for unspecified damages. The real problem I believe lies with her parents or lack off. what kind of parenting skills did her mother have. She must have approved of the guy at some point. On top of that why in the hell is her SISTER filing the lawsuit. You would think it would be the father and the mother. Hmm, sound to me like no father in the picture.
