Chivas USA Announces $5,000 Scholarship Penalty Contest

The penalty competition will take place this Friday.

Chivas USA, a professional soccer team, will be hosting a penalty contest for children between the ages of 6 and 17 before the match with the Chicago Fire this Friday. “The participant that hits the cross bar, and keeps on doing so until it is just them standing, will be the winner, ” said Pablo Troncoso, account manager for Chivas USA. The participating child or teenager will have one shot with each turn to hit the crossbar.In order to participate in this event the children will need to bring a ticket to game . The prize for the winner will be a $5,000 college scholarship, which will be awarded to them at halftime. Organizers believe that the simple premise of the contest will attract large …

This weekend were the opening day ceremonies for the Lynwood Youth Softball and Baseball League. Hundreds of community members and a number of city dignitaries attended the event. Disponible en español.

This Saturday were the opening day ceremonies for the Lynwood Youth Softball and Baseball League. Hundreds of families and several city dignitaries turned out for the ceremonies, which took place at the Lynwood City Park Baseball complex. Mayor Jim Morton threw the first pitch, marking the beginning of the season. A total of 46 teams lined up for opening day, including 12 Shetland teams 4-6 years-old, seven Pinto Baseball teams 7-8 years-old, six Mustang Baseball teams 9-10 years-old, four Bronco Baseball teams 11-12 years-old, five Pony Baseball teams 13-14 years-old, four Girls Softball teams 7-9 years-old, four Girls Softball 10-12 years-old and three Girls Softball 13-15 years-old. Speed Was Key to South East Jaguars' Victory

Derwin Henderson, South East High School’s football coach, believes that his fast tempo approach to training made a difference last season.

The Jaguars were crowned City Section Division II champions after beating Marshall High School 51 to 34 in a season with 13 wins and a single loss.  The team had been improving since the school's founding in 2005, and had a winning season during 2010, with seven wins and four losses and all seniors as players.
