The 22-year-old dealership has left South Gate because of economic concerns, said city officials.
Presione aquí para leer la nota en español. The Los Angeles Harley Davidson dealership that was located on 13300 Paramount Boulevard moved, to Orangethorpe Avenue near the Anaheim and Fullerton border, early last week. City officials said that this decision was related to the weak economic market. “Business has been down in the vehicle industry for a longtime, and Harley Davidson was no exception,” said Steven Lefever, Director of Community Development for the city of South Gate, who added that the weak economy was to blame for this. “An opportunity came up with another dealership, they decided the economics and the locale was an advantage.” The owners of the former South Gate dealership have merged it with the showroom that they purchased…

With Internet streaming services at an all-time high and an already crowded rental market, the business of local video stores is becoming more challenging.
Presione aquí para leer la nota en español. Brick and mortar video stores are in danger. They not only have to fight the convenience of mail delivery rental services, but also digital movie transfers, as well as the low prices of DVD dispensers. So perilous is the video rental industry that IBISWorld, a market research company, ranked it in October 2011 as one the ten riskiest U.S businesses. Making a buck has never been as hard as it is now for these businesses, as they struggle to both keep and gain clients in a market that is based on bargain prices and convenience. “Kids can now download movies and have no need for the DVD,” said Olegario Estevez, manager of 20/20 DVD store on Tweedy Boulevard. The shop is part of a chain that had …

Local Christian bookstores may not be blessed with huge profits but they are finding a constant supply of customers to keep their businesses afloat.
Presione aquí para ver la nota en español. Selling books has never been as hard as it is now. Large bookstore chains have closed shop and an increasing number of independent stores have either failed in the current economy or are struggling to survive. The book trade is also changing in the digital age, placing more stores in peril. Demand for physical books is expected to continuously decline through 2014, according to IHS iSuppli, a market research company. Despite this reality, some specialized Christian bookstores in South Gate have managed to maintain a stable financial footing. “It has been pretty constant,” said Gerardo Vega, co-owner of the 8-year-old Libreria Cristiana El Alfarero. “Economically, our business has always gone up …

The group was incorporated as a nonprofit in 2007 and given a $600,000 grant by the City of South Gate. The grant was meant to cover the association's funding for a three-year period. “The city only gave us funding for three years and we made it last four,” said Laverne Bates, Tweedy Mile Association treasurer and owner of Bates Realty on Tweedy Boulevard. “We are very conservative [with our funding].” But that funding has now run out.
